ClearView Q&A: T Dot Marley

What was your address growing up? What’s a memory there?

11727 Criterion Avenue. One memory I have is about my dog. I stole him, but I went to my cousin’s house and stayed there for two or three days. When I came back, my dog was gone. Before I even got to the backyard, I already knew something was wrong because he usually ran to the gate. I searched everywhere—in the house, the basement—but he was gone. I probably cried for three days.

Waffle House or IHOP?

I’m going to IHOP, man. Y’all be tripping at Waffle House—too many fights there. I do like their menu, but IHOP is the move. Growing up near Halls Ferry, right across from my cousin Rico’s house, we used to jog down the hill and hit up IHOP. It’s one of my favorite memories from back then.

Best song sample you ever heard.

The first one that came to mind is Twista, Jamie Foxx, and Kanye West’s “Slow Jamz.” I think that’s Luther Vandross, and it was used perfectly—one of my favorites. Midwest represent!

What’s something you always want your kids to remember about you?

My son is sitting right here, and I want him and my kids to know how hard I’ve worked. I hope I’m instilling the same work ethic—chasing your dreams, never giving up, and working hard for your family. It’s about being the head of your family, making things happen, and living with dedication, hard work, and good values.
