Gary, Indiana Honored the Jackson Family in a Weekend Long Celebration
Gary, Indiana turned into a joyful homage this past weekend as Mayor Eddie Melton and the city hosted the heartfelt 2300 Jackson Street Block Party, a dynamic two-day celebration honoring Michael Jackson’s legacy and the Jackson family’s roots. Held on August 29, Michael’s birthday, and August 30 at Roosevelt High School, the free, family-friendly festival featured live tributes, music, and moments of remembrance. Fans enjoyed performances hosted by Chris Tucker on Friday and Grammy-winner Deniece Williams on Saturday, musical sets by DJ Kid Capri and Edward Hollis (a renowned Michael Jackson impersonator), plus appearances by Jackie and Marlon Jackson. The event also included a moving recognition of Tito Jackson’s legacy following his passing in 2024. With food trucks, local vendors, and a children’s play zone, the block party beautifully blended big-name entertainment with community pride, proving that Gary remains at the heart of a legacy that changed music worldwide.
