On May 28th, 2025, the Common Threads DD Gathering brought together community members, advocates, and artists in a vibrant celebration of joy, possibilities, and the untold stories of people with disabilities. Hosted in collaboration with the Developmental Disabilities (DD) Council, the event united a major government institution with grassroots organizations to center community voices and reimagine how we understand ability, support, and inclusion. One of the most powerful moments came from Learning Tree, known for its unique ability to uncover individual passions and illuminate hidden talents within the disability community. During the gathering, there was a meaningful discussion about the work of 45 artists who created powerful pieces on doors—artworks that symbolized both entry and opportunity. Resources and stories were shared from across five counties, demonstrating that when government and grassroots forces come together, a more inclusive, creative, and compassionate future is not only possible—it’s already unfolding.
