The 2025 Artist in Residence program featured the soulful artistry of Okara Imani, a master storyteller, vocalist, and writer whose music blends R&B, blues, funk, jazz, and rock. Classically trained and deeply inspired by diverse genres, Okara has captivated audiences across Indianapolis with performances that celebrate love, Blackness, queerness, and womanhood. Alongside collaborators Ke’ara Sanders, Zo Sanders, Courtney Blayne McCrary, and Brandon Meeks, Okara continues to build a creative community rooted in authenticity and connection. Her work reflects a lifelong mission to explore self-understanding and to use music as a conduit for empathy, unity, and shared humanity. Through her art, Okara Imani reminds audiences of the power of self-expression and the beauty of seeing ourselves reflected in one another.
