Cheers to Season 8 of The Chi

From season 1 to now season 8 Lena Waithe has kept us The Chi fans seated every Sunday since 2018. Every season leaves us on the edges of our seats excited for what’s to come. Watching Poppa, Jake, and Kevin grow up to be young men growing and learning how to negative life in Chicago has been a fulfilling journey. This modern coming of age series that Lena Waithe created has kept us full for eight seasons. According to Google Lena Waithe began her career when she completed Columbia College Chicago’s Semester in LA program, a five-week experience with industry professionals and Lena Waithe also was an assistant for Mara Brock Akil the creator of Girlfriends, The Game, and her recent hit show Forever.

In 2017 Lena Waithe was the first black woman to win an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. In 2020 anything we shouldn’t be saying first black woman or black man for nothing, but that’s neither here nor there. 2025 actress Lynn Whitfield received an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a drama series. A great addition to the show, the actress plays a true Chicago boss who does not play about her family. Ask Google this one question, what black led television series has made it to ten seasons? Exactly not one black led television show has lasted 10 seasons. The Chi lasting over 6 seasons has lowkey made history with black Tv and Lena Waithe needs to be celebrated. Only 4 episodes out of season 7 and season 8 already have been renewed. With season 6 having 16 episodes, The Chi has shown that the viewers have been itching for tv series with 20 plus episodes again. I think it’s time we shift back into old school television back when television was elite.
