Culture, Community, and Culinary Fire: Inside Melanin in May 2025

The 2025 Melanin in May® Festival is set to electrify Indianapolis on Saturday, May 24, transforming the Community Alliance of the Far Eastside into a vibrant celebration of Black excellence. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., attendees can immerse themselves in a dynamic cultural experience featuring live performances by artists such as Okara Imani and The Call, Taleb Fazle, and The Brothers Footman on the Black Onyx Management SoundStage . The festival also showcases the Afrocentric ArtWalk, highlighting works from talented artists like Dana P Smith and Heath Holland, and hosts the 4th Annual Black Owned Food Truck Battle Royale, offering a diverse array of culinary delights. With over 150 Black-owned vendors in the PMPHASE Vendor Marketplace, attendees can explore a wide range of products and services. Admission is entirely free, embodying the festival’s commitment to community over commerce. As founder Dominic Dorsey states, it’s “a spring festival celebrating every shade of excellence, for those who flaunt their melanin with no apology”.
