Grocery shopping across the heartland is getting a major facelift. From central Indiana to downtown Columbus, multi-million-dollar Kroger Midwest store investments are transforming neighborhood aisles with modern upgrades and a deliberate push for Black-owned business representation.

Indy Southside Gets a $1.7M Face-Lift

Southside Indianapolis shoppers are stepping into an upgraded experience at 4202 S. East Street. Following a $1.7 million renovation, the store opens its newly remodeled doors on July 31 with wider aisles, modernized produce, a redesigned hot foods lineup, and a private pharmacy counseling room. Early birds catching the 7:00 AM opening score free giveaways ahead of the 9:00 AM ribbon-cutting ceremony.

This upgrade is part of a massive $200 million push across Kroger’s Central Division, fueling 15 store remodels this year alongside expanded Marketplace hubs in Noblesville, Zionsville, and Crawfordsville.

Ohio Spotlight: Premier Shelf Space for Black Entrepreneurs

Over in Columbus, Ohio, Kroger’s $1.6 million grand re-opening at Brewers Yard debuted something even bigger: a prime endcap display in high-traffic general merchandise strictly dedicated to Black-owned haircare, skincare, and wellness brands. Part of a $112 million investment across central and northwest Ohio, this initiative puts local and national minority entrepreneurs (from rising local creators to powerhouse names like The Honey Pot, Partake Foods, and A Dozen Cousins) front and center.

Why This Matters to Our Community

Neighborhood grocery upgrades do more than change where we buy food. They protect community health; boost localized economic development and restore dignity to urban shopping districts. By pairing physical infrastructure upgrades with prime shelf space for Black entrepreneurs, these Kroger Midwest store investments prove that supporting community wellness and building Black wealth go hand in hand.
