The Countdown Begins: What to Expect at the Obama Presidential Center This June

The South Side of Chicago is preparing to step into the global spotlight this June 2026 with the grand opening of the Obama Presidential Center in historic Jackson Park. More than just a museum, this 19.3-acre campus is a full-on love letter to the community where Barack and Michelle’s journey began. The centerpiece is a stunning eight story tower designed to look like four hands coming together, and it will feature a world class museum that puts you right in the middle of the 2008 ‘Yes We Can’ movement along with a full-scale replica of the Oval Office. For the 312, the real magic will be in the Home Court athletic center and the public library branch, which are being built as spaces where the next generation of South Side leaders can hoop, study, and organize.

Beyond the artifacts and the iconic Sky Room views of Lake Michigan, the Center is expected to bring serious energy to the local economy and creative scene. From the Eleanor Roosevelt Fruit and Vegetable Garden to the vibrant murals being created by local students, the campus is built to celebrate Black excellence and grassroots power. Whether you are planning to slide down the custom designed hill in the winter or catch an outdoor concert at the amphitheater during the summer, the OPC is set to be the ultimate hangout for the culture. It is a full circle moment for the 44th President and it proves that no matter how far you go, there is no place like home. This home will officially be open for all of us to be inspired starting this June.
