Indy Lights Up for Ida: Film Festival Celebrates Icons and Storyteller

The 6th Annual Indianapolis Black Documentary Film Festival (IBDFF) returns August 15–17, 2025, bringing powerful stories and community-centered narratives to the screen. Opening night at the Indianapolis Arts Center will feature ‘The Light of Truth: Richard Hunt’s Monument to Ida B. Wells’, a compelling documentary that interweaves the life and legacy of Ida B. Wells with the artistic journey of renowned sculptor Richard Hunt. Through this film, viewers will explore Hunt’s creative process in crafting a monument to one of America’s most fearless civil rights crusaders, suffragists, and anti-lynching activists. With support from the Efroymson Family Fund, Kan-Kan Cinema, and other cultural partners, IBDFF 2025 promises a weekend of inspiration, truth-telling, and celebration of Black voices in film.
