Indiana Black Expo to Honor Icons in Film, Music, and Sports at 2025 Corporate Luncheon

Indiana Black Expo (IBE) will shine a spotlight on Black excellence during its 2025 Corporate Luncheon by honoring four dynamic figures whose contributions have left lasting marks on their industries and communities. Taking place Friday, July 18, 2025, in the Sagamore Ballroom of the Indiana Convention Center, this prestigious event will recognize Oscar-nominated actress Alfre Woodard, Grammy Award-winning vocalist Deniece Williams, award-winning actor Wendell Pierce, and WNBA All-Star and ESPN analyst Chiney Ogwumike. The annual luncheon, presented by Indiana University and Pacers Sports & Entertainment, draws nearly 3,000 attendees and remains one of the largest and most impactful gatherings of its kind in the state.

Alfre Woodard will receive IBE’s Lifetime Achievement Award for her groundbreaking body of work across film, television, and stage. With a career that includes standout roles in 12 Years a Slave, Clemency, and Luke Cage, Woodard’s performances have consistently elevated narratives of strength, resilience, and complexity. Deniece Williams, known for her angelic four-octave range and hits like “Let’s Hear It for the Boy,” will be honored with the Living Legend Award, celebrating her influence in soul, pop, and gospel music over several decades.

The Screen Image Award will go to Wendell Pierce, whose acclaimed performances in The Wire, Elsbeth, and Broadway’s Death of a Salesman have solidified him as a versatile and enduring talent. And Chiney Ogwumike will be recognized with the Excellence in Media Award for her multifaceted impact as a WNBA All-Star, sports broadcaster, and global youth empowerment advocate. From ESPN studios to African basketball camps, Ogwumike continues to use her platform to champion representation and opportunity.

“Each of this year’s honorees represents the very best of excellence, impact, and cultural influence,” said Alice Watson, President of Indiana Black Expo. “From the arts and entertainment to sports and global engagement, these individuals have not only broken barriers in their respective fields but have also used their platforms to inspire, uplift, and create lasting change. It is our honor to recognize their remarkable achievements and celebrate the legacy they continue to build for future generations,” added Watson.
