Entrepreneur Spotlight: Monty of Hangtime(0)

What gave you the vision to open Hangtime?
When you opened the store it was called Exclusive Wear and Hangtime. Although it now just says Hangtime, is it related to the Exclusive Wear stores in other cities?
How do you make buying decisions on what you will carry in the store?
I recently saw someone on Twitter from ATL was in the Midwest talking bad about the guys still wearing Pelle here.
What has been the key to your longevity? Consistency is very key. You have to flip your product. Always stay up on game and be different. Our custom game is crazy. Our custom hats, our footwear. You’ve got to have a good eye. And you’ve got to invest back into your business…Our store is always loaded with inventory…Even if you made $1,000 this week, if your [business] needs $900 you’re gonna have to put it back in. That’s your longevity.
So it’s not as easy as it looks huh?
I can tell you’re passionate about both your business and your customers. Does watching some of your customers come and go at the hands of the streets from violence to incarceration hit home?
Any advice for someone wanting to get into fashion and retail?
What has been the most rewarding thing about owning Hangtime?

Cover Story: Lil Billy, Grind to the Shine(0)

Ten years ago, you couldn’t have told 25-year-old Billy he would be on the cover of a magazine. In fact, with his fast paced lifestyle, you wouldn’t have been able to tell him he would make it to 25. Growing up on the 3600 block of Kenwood in Indianapolis and jumping off the porch at the fresh young age of 15, he was blinded to the risks of the streets by the allure of fast money. What he didn’t know, was there was a vision that could see far beyond his to the real master plan. Even if it meant forcing him to sit down against his will to save his life.
During Billy’s three years served he plan began to take form. Billy came home with a renewed grind strategy to invest his time and resources into music. From this, the HFBT (husting for better times) movement was born. Partnered with childhood friend JE Heartbreak he has watched as street dreams have been taking shape into reality. Now, five mixtapes in, Lil Billy is ready to release the mixtape entitled “Lear Jet Music” which is his first solo project.
Tell us about how “Lear Jet Music” and what we can expect to hear?
How did you know music could become a serious career for you?
When was the first time you hit the stage and how did the crowd response make you feel?

Open Mic: Midwest Meets Indy Aug 19 and St Louis(0)
The Midwest Meets concert series and open mic is an opportunity for artists, producers, djs, publications and more from different parts of the region to network, build bridges, and spread their movements. Each Meet will be part of a series of concerts highlighting headliner artists in their respective cities while providing an open mic outlet to introduce new music as well. Before each Meet there will be a time to do interviews, record DJ drops or collaboration verses, share beats, etc. We hope the opportunities to network will foster relationships that will help bridge the gaps between cities and create more fans of the Midwest Movement as a whole.
