Hardwood Healing: Why Skateland’s Free Summer Sessions are Crucial for the West Side
Skating rinks have always served as the unofficial cultural sanctuaries of the Heartland. This summer, the west side is taking that legacy a step further. Located at 3902 N. Glen Arm Road, the upcoming free skating nights at Skateland are transforming the iconic local venue into a powerful hub for mental wellness, youth mentorship, and neighborhood safety.
In urban Indianapolis, keeping our youth secure and mentally grounded during the summer months requires intentional, safe spaces. By taking financial strain out of the equation, these community-focused sessions give local families a necessary outlet to release stress, process trauma, and experience raw, unapologetic joy.
Reclaiming Our Peace on the Floor
The momentum kicks off with the “Skate for Self” session on Tuesday, June 9, from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Sponsored by Genesys Solutions, the rink is partnering with NAMI Greater Indianapolis and Stop the Violence Indianapolis to intentionally blend the therapeutic rhythm of skate culture with real-life mental health support. Join us for an evening dedicated to wellness, community, and fun at Skateland!
The first 200 skaters receive FREE admission, and skate rentals are available for $5.00. If you arrive after the cutoff, general entry is just $6.00, with a $3.00 spectator fee for those who just want to soak in the vibes. Expect massive giveaways and more throughout the evening alongside smooth networking on the hardwood.
Equipping the Next Generation
Next, the energy shifts to the youth on Sunday, July 19, from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Skateland is linking up with Boundless Youth to host a high-energy Summer Bash focused on mentorship. To alleviate the financial burden on single and low-income parents, the first 100 kids skate free, and the team is giving away over 200 premium backpacks stuffed with essential school supplies.
Complete with a live DJ spinning the best in Hip-Hop and R&B across that legendary 17,000-square-foot floor, these free skating nights at Skateland prove that community care looks like meeting the people exactly where they love to gather.
