B.I.R.T.H. Fund Brings Cash Relief and Empowerment to Expecting Mothers in Indianapolis

The Bridge Project, in partnership with the Indianapolis Office of Equity, Belonging and Inclusion, is launching the B.I.R.T.H. (Building Independent Resilient Thriving Homes) Fund to address infant mortality and maternal health challenges in Indianapolis. Beginning in November 2025, the program will provide 100 eligible pregnant individuals with unconditional cash support for three years. Participants will receive a one-time prenatal stipend of $1,125, followed by monthly payments of $750 for the first 15 months and $375 for the remaining 21 months. Payments will be distributed on reloadable debit cards or through direct deposit, giving recipients easy access to funds that can be used for food, rent, childcare, diapers, or any other family needs.

The B.I.R.T.H. Fund targets specific ZIP codes in Marion County where infant mortality rates are two to five times higher than the national average. By putting money directly into mothers’ hands, the program offers true financial flexibility and supports both mental and emotional well-being. Participants will also have access to financial coaching, educational resources, and connections to local health departments and hospitals, including IU Health and Eskenazi Health. The Bridge Project is partnering with the Regenstrief Institute to track maternal and infant health outcomes and measure the program’s impact on families and communities.

Applications for the B.I.R.T.H. Fund open November 5, 2025, at www.bridgeproject.org/apply. For more information, visit www.bridgeproject.org.
