A Legend Remembered: Amos Brown’s Spirit Lives On in the 2025 Radio Hall of Fame
The Museum of Broadcast Communications has announced eight new Legends inductees into the Radio Hall of Fame, honoring extraordinary voices and visionaries who shaped the sound and soul of American radio. This 2025 Legends Class includes on-air personalities, engineers, producers, and executives whose influence continues to resonate long after their passing. Among them stands Indianapolis’ own Amos Brown, a beloved broadcaster, community advocate, and trailblazer whose impact extended far beyond the studio.
For over four decades, Amos Brown used his microphone as a tool for truth and empowerment. Arriving at WTLC-FM in 1975 and later hosting Afternoons with Amos on AM 1310 The Light, Brown became a trusted voice for Indianapolis’ Black community and a champion for fairness, education, and accountability. He did not simply report the news; he confronted it head-on, asking the questions others avoided and amplifying stories that too often went unheard. His show became more than a program, it was a community forum, a space where citizens could speak, leaders could listen, and change could begin.
To Indianapolis, Amos Brown was more than a broadcaster. He was a teacher, a mentor, and a neighbor whose dedication to his city was unwavering. His induction into the Radio Hall of Fame affirms what his listeners already knew: that his work was not just about radio but about uplifting humanity. As one of eight honorees in the 2025 Legends Class, alongside Richard Burden, Joanne Church, Jed The Fish, Irna Phillips, Steve Smith, Dale Sommers, and Don Wade, Brown’s inclusion is both a national acknowledgment and a deeply personal triumph for those who called Indianapolis home.
The induction ceremony will be held Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the Swissotel in Chicago. For the Indianapolis community, it will be a moment of pride and reflection, a time to celebrate the man who gave his city a voice and ensured that voice would never fade. As Midwest Leak Magazine continues to highlight local excellence and urban artistry, Amos Brown’s story serves as a lasting reminder of what it means to lead with conviction, purpose, and heart. His words may have left the airwaves, but his spirit continues to guide them.
