Mike Epps Proves Home is Where the Heart Is with His Gift to Indianapolis

The second annual Mike Epps Community Concert brought thousands of Indianapolis residents to Washington Park on Sept. 6 for a day of music, wellness and celebration. Hosted by Indianapolis native Mike Epps, the free event featured performances from R&B and funk legends including Zapp, Carl Thomas, Michel’le and Jon B. Families, longtime fans and community members of all ages filled the park, creating an atmosphere of joy and unity. Epps described the concert as a gift to his hometown, saying it was “for the city, for the culture and for our healing.”

The concert was made possible by a wide network of sponsors. Leading supporters included the Mike Epps Foundation and Pink Street Productions, joined by the Indianapolis Colts and Indiana Pacers. The Colts also sponsored a youth zone featuring bounce houses, game trucks, face painting and activities for children ages 5 to 12. Additional partners included the Marion County Public Health Department, Department of Public Works, Indy Parks, Bar-B-Q Heaven, Robinson Facility Supplies, AFSCME Local 725, Northside Bar & Grill and the City of Indianapolis. Together, these organizations ensured the event remained free, family-friendly and accessible.

Organizers provided free shuttle service from three Park and Ride locations, encouraging residents to use ride-share options because of limited parking. Guests were asked to leave dogs, tents, alcohol and glass bottles at home to maintain a safe environment. The result was a smooth, welcoming experience for thousands who came out to enjoy live music and community fellowship. With strong attendance and enthusiastic support, the Mike Epps Community Concert has quickly become a city tradition, blending entertainment with purpose and leaving Indianapolis looking forward to its return in 2026.
